Picture this: It’s the middle of winter, you have dragged yourself out of the warm confines of your bed, only to be faced with the mammoth task of choosing an outfit to wear for the day. Suddenly we miss the days of having a school uniform and not having to spend energy on this decision every morning. We choose the easiest fail safe option and leave for work- often something your co-workers have seen you in once a week for several months now.
What if there was an easier way? A hack if you will, that will eliminate this painful moment every morning and help you set yourself up for (style) success?
You prep your meals for the week, you prep your diary for the week, what if you prepped your outfits for the week?
It’s been proven that we only have a finite amount of brainpower to make decisions everyday. Guys like Steve Jobs understood this, which is why we typically always saw him in a black turtleneck and New Balance sneakers. Steve knew that by eliminating one decision from his morning, meant that he could instead use that energy for his company.
While I am in no way suggesting you run out and purchase a wardrobe of black turtlenecks, the key takeaway is that we need to automate more menial parts of our life in order to slay in the important ways.
An easy way to automate your wardrobe without sacrificing your personal style is to simply spend thirty minutes on a Sunday evening and prep your week of outfits. You might set them up on a garment rail, or on one side of your wardrobe for easy access in the mornings.
Three key benefits for this method are:
-
Saving your time in the morning (maybe that means extra time in your warm bed!)
-
Having a clear frame of mind to evaluate your needs for the week. You might have an important meeting, or maybe you have a day where you will be on your feet all day. You have the time on Sunday to plan accordingly.
-
You have the time and space to play with your personal style a little and put together combinations people may not have seen on you before. Style game up-levelled.
So whether you work a corporate job or you are busy designing your dream life as an entrepreneur, simply allocating time to prep your outfits the same way you prep your lunches for the week, appears to be a solid habit to adopt.
